MILWAUKEE - Fall championship season is upon us in earnest as Cross Country and Men's Soccer will start their post-season runs this week. Meanwhile, Women's Soccer looks for NACC perfection and Hockey gets underway. It'll be an interesting week for the Raiders. Here is what you need to know.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL (5-15, 4-7 NACC - W1)
Women's Volleyball is coming off a three-game sweep of Wisconsin Lutheran Saturday to cap NACC play strong. The Raiders finished tied for seventh and with four league wins. The finish is the team's best since 2008 and the league win total is tied for its most since 2008. MSOE hits the road to close out the season this week, beginning Tuesday with a match at Cardinal Stritch and then four matches on the weekend at Illinois Wesleyan's Barker Chevrolet Volleyball Classic III.
Women's Soccer captured its first NACC regular season championship with three wins last week. The Raiders have won 19-straight games against NACC competition (including tournament) and are on the brink of a perfect league campaign. Only Wednesday's showdown at Concordia Chicago stands in their way. The team has already clinched the No. 1 seed in the NACC Tournament, which includes a bye into the semifinals. MSOE's defense of its 2015 NACC Tournament title begins Nov. 1.
Sara Travia had six goals and three assists last week and is nearing Jessica Axt's school record of 167 career points. She currently has 165 career points, which is fourth in league history. Meanwhile, Caitlin Liddiard became the fourth woman in school history to 100 career points last Monday and now has 104 points on 43 goals and 18 assists.
MEN'S SOCCER (10-7-1, 5-3-1 NACC - T1)
Men's Soccer had a tough week last week, falling at Lakeland on the road mid-week and playing to a draw after an 88th minute equalizer by Wisconsin Lutheran Saturday. The Raiders' hopes of jumping up to the No. 2 seed in the NACC were dashed, but they are in good shape to finish third with a win in their final game of the regular season Wednesday. The No. 3 seed is not too bad, considering MSOE won the 2015 NACC Tournament title from that position.
Braden Andryk became the first player with multiple 20-goal seasons with his 20th on Saturday. He is three goals shy of Jordan Werner's school-record goal-scoring mark set in 2012. Andryk has scored a point in 11-straight games and has 49 points on the season.
Hockey season is here. The Raiders open the season on the road, taking on #4 Adrian for the second-straight season. The teams will play a weekend series kicking off Friday at 6:05 p.m. central time and conclude Saturday at 2:05 p.m. Visit GO-RAIDERS.com later this week for a season preview.
Cross Country is back in action this weekend at the NACC Championships at Greenfield Park in West Allis. The Raiders had last weekend off in preparation for the championships. Both teams are peaking at the right time, with almost every runner lowering their season-best times significally at one of the last two meets. The MSOE men have had all five scoring runners on the All-NACC Team (Top 15) in each of the last two seasons, winning the 2014 league title and taking second last season. On the women's side, the team is looking to build on its fifth-place finish from last season--it's best finish since 2007.
