MILWAUKEE - Playoff time has arrived for Men's Volleyball while the spring sports are in full effect for the Raiders. Baseball, Softball, and Men's Tennis each feature at home this week.
BASEBALL (10-10, 3-3 NACC - W2)
Baseball had just one doubleheader on the schedule but still got a week's worth of runs in, scoring 29 in a sweep at Lakeland. The Raiders won game two 20-4 in their first 20-run game in nearly seven years. Owen Burnikel went 7-for-11 on the day with a five-hit, four-run, four-RBI effort in game two. A home game against former league foe Maranatha comes on Tuesday before a return to the NACC at Edgewood Saturday.
LACROSSE (5-5, 3-1 MLC - W3)
Lacrosse has won three-straight games for just the second time in program history after a pair of decisive wins over Concordia Chicago and Northland last week. Against CUC, the Raiders set a school record with 25 goals in a 25-2 victory. Clay Gustafson also became the program's all-time leading goal-scorer in the match when he struck for five goals in the game. He then notched seven Saturday against Northland. MSOE faces some league heavies this week at Concordia Wisconsin Wednesday and a home date with Aurora Saturday.
MEN'S VOLLEYBALL (20-4, 16-3 MCVL - L1)
Men's Volleyball capped the regular season last weekend with a tough loss to Dominican Saturday. The Raiders get a chance for a do-over very quickly, taking on the Stars in the semifinals of the MCVL Tournament Friday. MSOE is looking for a second-straight trip to the league title match. Last Friday's win over Benedictine clinched the first 20-win in program history.
SOFTBALL (17-7, 6-2 NACC - L2)
Softball pushed their winning streak to 11 games with an entertaining doubleheader sweep of Wisconsin Lutheran Saturday. Shannon Curtis hurled a 13-inning shutout in game one, striking out 13. Gabi Roderman hit a walk-off single for the second-straight Saturday to score the victory. Then, in game two, the Raiders trailed 6-1 heading to the bottom of sixth. They rallied for seven runs and retired the Warriors 1-2-3 in the seventh inning on three pitches for a dramatic win. That streak came to an end with a pair of losses at Concordia Wisconsin Sunday. MSOE's 17 wins this season are already the fourth-most in school history. A home doubleheader with defending league champion Aurora awaits the team Saturday.
Rowing got back in action with an outstanding showing at the Milwaukee Open Regatta last Saturday. The Raiders won nine of the 10 races in which they had an entry. That also included the first women's crew in program history. The boat featured four coxswains from the novice team, who also make up much of the MSOE women's rowing club team, along with the team's club coxswain. This week, the Raiders head to the Madison Regatta.
Track & Field had a strong showing at the Wisconsin Private School Championships at Ripon, with the women's taking third and the men fifth. On the women's side, Jerica Kotarak won two events and Shana Cook won another to go with a runner-up finish. For the men, Nick Avila won the 3000m steeplechase and Austin Wright scored in three events with two runner-up showings. This week was scheduled to be an off week but some athletes will head to the Benedictine Relays instead.
MEN'S TENNIS (4-15, 3-1 NACC - W1)
Men's Tennis earned a hard-fought split in a home doubleheader last Saturday, coming up just short against Edgewood 5-4 before a 9-0 shutout of Marian. Against the Eagles, the Raiders had two matches go to three sets and had another two matches with sets going into tie-breaks. This weekend features another home doubleheader with Concordia Chicago and Dominican coming to town.
