Boehmer Pitches Baseball Past Dominican in NACC Tourney

MEQUON, Wisconsin – Junior Michael Boehmer allowed just four hits and struck out nine to pitch the MSOE baseball team to another game in the 2017 NACC Tournament with a 2-1 win over Dominican Friday morning at Kapco Park.

The Raiders (20-20) used small ball to score two runs in the fourth inning to overcome a 1-0 deficit and end the season of the Stars (19-23). They now advance to another elimination game later Friday at approximately 4 p.m. against the winner of Aurora and Benedictine.

Boehmer (6-1) needed just 98 pitches to get through all 9.0 innings. He threw 76 strikes and did not walk a batter in the game.

Despite his dominance on the mound, MSOE faced a 1-0 deficit heading into the fourth inning. The team led off the frame with three-straight singles to load the bases. Junior Garrett Willems led off with a single to right center field, then freshman D.J. Ellifson and senior Brandon McCumber followed with bunt singles.

Sophomore Andres Oselio followed with a sacrifice fly to score Willems and move Ellifson up to third. Then, junior Max Kemp dropped down a perfect suicide squeeze bunt to score Ellifson, who'd broken from third, to make it 2-1.

Boehmer then took over and allowed just one hitter to reached base safely over the final six innings. He retired the final eight batters of the game with four strikeouts.

Ellifson and sophomore Nick Gross finished with three hits each as the Raider offense knocked out 12 hits in the game. McCcumber and junior Jimmy Carrington added two hits each.
