Raiders Fall Short In Doubleheader

Raiders Fall Short In Doubleheader

CAROL STREAM, Ill.Nick Gross (Brookfield, Wis./Marquette) slugged the teams third home run of the season and Riley Wikel (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) had a quality start, however it still couldn't prevent the MSOE Raiders from dropping a pair of one run ballgames to Aurora on Friday afternoon in Illinois.

Game One:
MSOE Raiders – 3
Aurora – 4

Game Two:
MSOE Raiders – 2
Aurora – 3

Both games of this doubleheader were extremely competitive, as MSOE hung right with one of the leaders in the conference. Aurora brought a perfect 4-0 record in NACC play to the ballpark, with the Raiders looking to put an end to their winning streak. The Spartans struck first in game one, scoring a run in each of their first two at bats. Nick Gross helped the Red & White get back into contention with his first home run of the season, a solo short that would leave the score tied entering the third. All would remain quiet until the bottom of the fifth, when an MSOE error led to three Spartan runs. The Raiders cut the lead to just one in the top of the sixth inning on an Andres Oselio (Beloit, Wis./Memorial) single, but that would cap off the scoring in the 4-3 game one defeat.

AU once again got out in front in the second contest, scoring one in the third and two in the fourth. Raiders pitching shut them down from there, as Cole Raines (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) came in to provide 3.2 innings of scoreless one hit ball in relief. RBI singles by Brandon Beauchamp (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) and Ryan Kocher (Winfield, Ill./Wheaton North) in the fifth put the Raiders right back within striking distance, but both teams would be unable to touch home plate for the last four innings in another one run loss for the Red & White. Aurora moved to 6-0 in conference with the 3-2 win, while the Raiders fell to 2-4.

The last four ballgames that MSOE and Aurora have played have been won by two runs or less. Unfortunately, the Raiders have come out on the losing end of those battles the last three times.

Ryan Kocher – 3 hits, 1 RBI
Aaron Trattner (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet)– 2 hits, 1 walk
Nick Gross – Home Run, 1 RBI, 1 walk
Riley Wikel – 7.0 innings pitched, 3 earned runs, 5 strikeouts

The Raiders will reset and gear up for their first home game of the season at Henry Aaron Field this Sunday when they welcome Rockford to town for a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for Noon.
