WATERTOWN, Wisconsin – Senior Collin Seubert scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the MSOE men's basketball team to a 61-49 victory over Maranatha Tuesday evening.
The Raiders (2-5) rattled off an early 22-4 lead to overtake an early surge by the Sabercats (3-7) and snap their four-game losing streak.
Zach Terpstra paced Maranatha with 15 points.
MBU scored the first seven points of the game before the MSOE offense got going, but Seubert hit a three-pointer just under three minutes in the game to start a 22-4 run to seize control of the game. When Seubert hit a layup at the 8:46 mark of the half, the Raiders had opened a 22-11 lead. They saw their lead peak at 12 points in the half just a couple minutes later and took a 31-21 lead into halftime.
The Sabercats pulled with three points in the second half at 45-42 with 7:52 to go, but the Red & White pulled away again. Sophomore Jason Palesse kick-started an 8-0 run with a three-pointer, rebuilding an 11-point lead at 53-42. MSOE then made 6-of-6 free throws over the final couple minutes to end any more comeback chances by the home team.
The Raiders shot 35.2 percent for the game, making 8-of-28 three-pointers and 15-of-18 at the free throw line. They also limited Maranatha to 33.9 percent shooting.
MSOE returns to the court Saturday hosting Lawrence.
