MADISON, Wisconsin – Four players scored in double-figures and freshman Sammy Linn forced overtime with a last-second layup in regulation as the MSOE men's basketball team defeated Edgewood 84-80 Wednesday evening at the EdgeDome.
The Raiders (4-2, 4-1 NACC) scored seven-straight points in overtime to overtake the Eagles (1-6, 1-3 NACC) before holding on for the victory.
Junior Jason Palesse led the way with 19 points. Sophomore Matthew Kirmse hit five 3-pointers on his way to 16 points with nine rebounds. Linn added the go-ahead three-pointer in overtime and finished with 15 points. Senior Tegan Miles added 12 points.
Emil Radisevic had a game-high 29 points for Edgewood with 12 rebounds. Travis Kell also had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Ben Seefeld chipped in 10 points off the bench,
There were 14 ties and 20 lead changes in the game and neither team led by more than six points in the game.
The Eagles held a 72-70 lead after making 1-of-2 free throws with 15 seconds remaining in regulation. Linn grabbed the rebound on the missed free throw. On the ensuing possession, he drove to the basket from the top of the key and hit a layup inside the last three seconds. The home team inbounded right away, but a potential game-winning try was way off the mark.
Edgewood scored first in overtime before Linn followed with a go-ahead three-pointer for the Red & White with 3:14 to play for a 73-72. Miles followed with a layup and then converted a pair of free throws to open a 79-74 Raider lead.
MSOE made five free throws down the stretch to hold off any comeback attempts by the home team.
The Raiders shot 43.5 percent from the field, hitting on 8-of-23 (.348) from three-point range. Edgewood finished at 45.2 percent shooting, including a 2-for-12 clip from beyond the arc.
The Red & White returns to the court Saturday, hosting Rockford.
