MILWAUKEE – Five players scored in double-figures to lead the MSOE men's basketball team to a 93-73 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran for its seventh-straight win Wednesday night at the Recreation Complex.
The Raiders (13-1, 8-1 NACC) also successfully avenged its lone loss of the season to the Warriors (5-9, 3-6 NACC) on Dec. 5.
Sophomore Josh Herzog led the team in scoring with 17 points in just 15 points off the bench. He shot 7-for-8 from the field and knocked down three 3-pointers. Juniors Jake Gebert and Travis Ballard had 14 points each, combining on 12 rebounds and four blocks in the game.
Collin Kennedy led WLC with 22 points. Caleb Goldstein chipped in 12.
MSOE never trailed in the game, opening an 18-6 lead inside the opening five minutes of the game. Twelve points was the largest lead of the opening half as the teams settled in and the Raiders took a 49-41 lead into halftime.
The Warriors hit a quick three-pointer out of the intermission to cut their deficit to five points but the Red & White responded with a 20-2 run over the next six-plus minutes to effectively put the game out of reach at 69-46. The hosts would get no closer than 16 down the stretch while MSOE led by as many as 25 in the final minutes of regulation.
The Raiders put together an efficient offensive performance, shooting 55.2 percent from the field with a 10-for-23 clip from three-point range. They also made 9-of-11 free throws and committed just nine turnovers against 24 assists.
The Warriors were limited to just 33.3 percent shooting in the second half to finish at 41.9 percent for the night. They went 7-for-23 from beyond the arc but did get to the free throw line 20 times with 14 makes.
MSOE puts its winning streak on the line once more Saturday, hosting Lakeland at Hotchkin Arena.
