MILWAUKEE - Senior Jason Palesse and Junior Matthew Kirmse of the MSOE men's basketball team have been named to the Google Academic All-District Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America the organization announced Friday.
Palesse is having another standout season on the court. He also continues his tremendous work in the classroom. He boasts a 3.93 grade point average as a double major in actuarial science and mechanical engineering major. Palesse was the program's first Academic All-American, last year, since Austin Meier was named CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year in 2011.
On the court, he started 24 of 25 games and was a consistent part of the Raider offense with 10.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game. He leads the NACC in assists per game (5.6) and total assists (141) and is among the top 20 in total assists in the nation. He has scored in double-figures 13 times this season.
Kirmse has been a go to player for the Raiders, both and off the court. As an actuarial science major, he has a 3.88 grade point average.
On the floor, Kirmse is averaging 19.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and is shooting 43.6 percent from three-point land. He has scored in double-figures 20 times this season and most recently scored his 1000 point. He is the 16th player in school history to reach the mark and the seventh to do it as a junior.
MSOE is the only university in Division III to have two players named to the All-District Team. This is a tribute to MSOE and the hard work of all the student-athletes.
The 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District Men's Basketball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
