STEVENS POINT, Wisconsin – Senior Clint Garris scored the equalizer to force overtime as the No. 12/13 MSOE hockey team skated to a 2-2 draw with No. 10/8 UW-Stevens Point Friday night at KB Willett Arena on the opening day of the Holiday Tournament presented by Ascension.
The Raiders (5-1-1) and Pointers (5-3-1) advanced to a shootout to determine Saturday's opponents, with UWSP advancing 1-0 to the title game against Aurora. MSOE takes on UW-Stout in the consolation at 3:30 p.m.
Stevens Points got back in the game quickly in the third period, leveling the score just 2:19 into the frame. The home team then pulled ahead at 2-1 at the 11:41 mark.
Freshman Rock Boynton made his second-straight start in goal, making 42 saves on the night. He also stopped four shots in the five-minute overtime period to keep the score tied and see out the game's draw.
Stevens Point outshot MSOE 44-20 on the night. Both teams were whistled for four penalties, creating four power plays each way. The Red & White netted the lone power play goal in the game.
