SUPERIOR, Wisconsin – The No. 14/13 MSOE hockey team returned to the ice after a 27-day layoff and suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of Marian in a non-conference contest on the opening day of the Superior Showdown Friday afternoon at Wessman Arena.
The Raiders (7-3-1) could not shake off the rust in the game, conceding an opening goal midway through the second period before the Sabres (7-3-1) tacked on a pair of late goals.
Senior Zach Woodman made 25 saves for MSOE.
Hunter Stewart netted the first of two goals in the game-winner at 10:12 of the second period for Marian. After Lonnie Clary doubled the advantage at 12:08 of the third, Stewart struck again with just over four minutes to play.
Marian held a 28-20 shot advantage in the game.
The Raiders will now play in the Superior Showdown consolation game Saturday at 3 p.m.
