Offense Puts Up Five Goals in Win at Northland

ASHLAND, Wisconsin – Five different players lit the lamp as the MSOE hockey team skated to a 5-2 victory over Northland Friday evening at the Bay Area Civic Center.

The Raiders (2-3, 2-1 NCHA) fell behind 1-0 before rattling off five-straight scores to pull away from the Lumberjacks (0-3-1, 0-2-1 NCHA).

Senior Michael Romund, junior Nick Redmon, and sophomores Will Gauthier, Jeff Makowski, and Nate Rogers were the goal scorers. Sophomore Adem Arifi dished out a pair of assists while Gauthier, Makowski, and Rogers also tallied assists.

Northland opened the scoring just 47 seconds into the game before MSOE got its offense on track. Gauthier netted the equalizer just over 10 minutes later to send the teams into the first intermission level at 1-1.

The Raiders then pulled away with a pair of second-period goals. Romund registered the go-ahead goal 6:43 into the frame and Makowski converted on the power play at 10:18. His goal would stand up as the game-winner. MSOE then put the game away with a pair of quick goals to start the final period. Rogers struck in just 26 seconds and Redmon followed suit with a man advantage at the 3:07 mark.

Northland tack on a consolation score with four minutes remaining in regulation.

The Red & White finished the night with a 30-25 shot advantage and converted on 2-of-3 power plays. NC finished 1-for-2 with the man advantage.

Sophomore Rock Boynton made 23 saves in goal for the win.

After scoring one goal through two games, the Raiders have responded with 11 goals over their last three outings. They have also scored two multiple power-play goals in each game.

MSOE returns to the ice Saturday afternoon at St. Scholastica.
