RIVER FALLS, Wisconsin – Junior Nick Redmon scored two goals to lead the MSOE hockey team to a 4-2 victory over UW-River Falls Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena.
The Raiders (4-7-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Redmon scored twice and then answered each of the Falcons (5-5-3) scores to ensure the victory.
Redmon opened the scoring at 5:44 of the first period off an assist from sophomore David Marabella. He then doubled the advantage at the 11:46 mark. This time it was junior Evan Kearns and sophomore Will Gauthier providing assistance.
The 2-0 lead would last until UWRF got on the board with the lone score of the second period near the midway point.
Romund re-established the two-goal advantage with an assist from freshman Brandon Turer at the 8:45 mark of the third period. The Falcons quickly answered at 9:51 to make it exciting head into the final minutes.
River Falls pulled its goalie in the final minutes and Makowski took advantage of the uncontested goal with 41 seconds to go in the game. Romund and sophomore Stian Owens assisted on the empty-netter.
Sophomore Rock Boynton made the start in goal, stopping 35 shots in the game as MSOE was outshot 37-14. Neither team capitalized on a power play, with the Red & White going 0-for-2 and UWRF 0-for-3.
The Raiders now have a two-week break before closing out 2018 with a home game against Babson on Dec. 29 at the Kern Center.
