Hockey Skates To 2-2 Tie at Lawrence

APPLETON, Wisconsin – Sophomores Garrett Gintoli and Stian Owens each scored goals to lead the MSOE hockey team to a 2-2 against Lawrence Tuesday night at the Appleton Family Ice Center.

The Raiders (5-7-3, 3-3-2 NCHA) pulled ahead twice on the night only to see the Vikings (4-10-1, 2-5-1 NCHA) answer with a goal of their own within minutes to force the draw.

Gintoli opened the scoring at 6:34 of the first period off an assist from junior Zack Davis. The hosts then responded just under three minutes later with a score of their own to tie the game.

The score remained 1-1 through the remainder of the period despite a decisive 10-4 shot advantage to the Red & White.

Neither team scored in an evenly-played second period before Owens put the Raiders ahead once again. He lit the lamp with a power play score jump past the midway point of the third period at 11:35 with assists credited to senior Michael Romund and sophomore Adam Ostrowski.

Lawrence was able to respond, this time just over two minutes later with a power play goal of its own to pull level.

MSOE was put on the defensive in overtime, withstanding a 5-0 shot edge to the Vikings to see out the result.

The Red & White outshot LU 30-26 in the game while sophomore Rock Boynton made 24 saves on the night. MSOE finished 1-for-6 on the power play while the Vikings were able to net a pair of goals in five chances.

The Raiders return home this weekend to host Northland Friday and St. Scholastica Saturday.
