Lacrosse Suffers Defeat Against Aurora

MILWAUKEE – Junior Oliver Winsor scored three goals and assisted on the fourth in the MSOE lacrosse team's 18-5 loss to Aurora Saturday afternoon at Viets Field.

The Raiders (5-7, 3-3 MLC) struggled against the four-time defending league champion Spartans (13-1, 5-0 MLC) and a 7-2 second quarter seemingly put the game out of reach at 13-3.

Winsor notched his fourth hat trick of the season, completing the feat with his final goal coming as time expired in the fourth quarter. Junior Clay Gustafson and freshman John Wilson added goals in the game, with Gustafson opening the team's scoring and extending his point-scoring streak to 29-straight games.

Trevor McNamara led Aurora with five goals and two assists. He was the lone visitor to notch a hat trick as Jason Koziol tallied four assists with a goal of his own.

The Spartans opened the game with six-straight goals before Gustafson scored a man-up goal to cap the first quarter scoring. Then, after AU and Winsor traded goals in the opening minutes of the second period, Aurora scored another five unanswered goals. Before the teams traded goals again ahead of the halftime horn.

Junior Pat Collins made 10 saves in goal and played three quarters. Freshman Colin Hall took over in the fourth quarter and stopped five shots.

Shots were 56-35 in the Spartans' favor for the game. They also held a 44-30 advantage in ground balls and won 21-of-26 face-offs.

The Raiders take a break from league play to travel to the Twin Cities for a match against North Central (Minn.) Wednesday.
