Tabbert Keys Fast Start in 4-0 Win Over Ripon

MILWAUKEE – Sean Tabbert scored twice in the first 11 minutes, including just 72 seconds into the match, to send the MSOE men's soccer team to a decisive 4-0 victory over Ripon Saturday afternoon at Viets Field.

The Raiders (3-1) posted their second shutout of the week, limiting the Redhawks (2-1-1) to just two shots in the match.

MSOE went right at a Ripon defense that had opened the season with three-straight shutouts, pressuring the visitors from the opening minute. Tabbert's first tally came as a result of that pressure, as he forced a turnover and beat the keeper far post to open the scoring.

The senior forward nabbed his brace in just the 11th minute, as Braden Andryk made a dynamic run down the far side and sent a cross into the box. Tabbert crashed on goal and hit a bouncing volley into the back of the net for a quick 2-0 lead.

Mikey Perez would score a goal in the second-straight game to send the Raiders into halftime ahead 3-0. He dribbled through the heart of the Redhawk defense and slotted a shot past the keeper in the 42nd minute.

After intermission, the Red & White continued to pressure Ripon but could not add to the lead until late. The Raiders were awarded a free kick on the side of the penalty area inside the final five minutes. Joe Oswald lined up on the ball and sent his serve into the center of the box where Zach Hanson rose for a glancing header that tucked inside the far post to cap the scoring.

MSOE held a 21-2 shot advantage in the game, putting 11 tries on goal. Andryk had nine of those shots, hitting the post and cross bar in the game. He did extend his point scoring streak to 17-straight games dating back to last season with his assist.

A pair of keepers combined on the shutout with Riley Bruce earning the win by playing the first 45 minutes. Patrick Grund closed out the game and stopped the only Redhawk shot on target late in regulation.

The Raiders return to the field Wednesday, hosting Dubuque at 7 p.m.
