AURORA, Illinois – Senior Braden Andryk scored a goal and assisted on another to lead the fifth-seeded MSOE men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over No. 4 Aurora Saturday evening at Aurora Sports Park.
The Raiders (11-6) also received a goal from freshman Carson Albert and two saves from junior Riley Bruce in getting past the Spartans (12-8). The NACC Semifinals are Tuesday, with MSOE taking on top seed Concordia Wisconsin in Mequon.
Andryk opened the scoring in the 14th minute after senior Brandon Herman intercepted a pass deep at the top of the attacking third. He quickly switched feet and slotted a diagonal through ball into Andryk's path. Inside the box, Andryk beat the keeper to the far post.
Andryk played the role of distributor just under 16 minutes from time for Albert's insurance score. Senior Sean Tabbert found Andryk near the top of the box with a high diagonal ball from the midfield. The keeper and defense scrambled to cut off Andryk's angle to goal, allowing him to roll a cross to the middle of the penalty area. An on-rushing Albert met the ball in the middle of the empty net and he tucked it away.
Bruce stopped both shots he faced, but the defense did a tremendous job in front of him. Aurora outshot the Raiders 15-10 and had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks, but the Red & White yielded just those two shots on target.
