RIVER FOREST, Illinois – Playing in its third NACC Championship in four seasons, the MSOE men's soccer team fell short of a third championship in that time with a 2-1 loss to Dominican Saturday morning at West Campus Field.
The Raiders (12-7) struck first, and carried a 1-0 lead into halftime, but could not hold off a pair of Stars (14-4) goals inside the first 11 minutes of the second half. Dominican now advances to the NCAA Tournament, courtesy of the league's automatic bid.
MSOE led 1-0 coming out of halftime courtesy of a goal by senior Brandon Herman in just the 14th minute. The home side, however, quickly equalized after the break. Nestor Ascensio equalized in the 48th minute and Isaac Perez tallied the game-winner in the 56th.
Herman's opening goal was a back-post header. He converted off senior Sean Tabbert's corner kick from the far side. It was a career-high fifth goal for Herman and his fourth that either tied the score or gave the Red & White the lead in a match this season. It was also Tabbert's 13th career assist of the season, third-most in program history.
The fifth-seeded Raiders, playing as the underdog throughout the tournament, went right at the No. 2 Stars. They held a 16-15 shot advantage, which was 9-6 in favor of the Red & White in the opening 45 minutes.
Junior Riley Bruce made four saves in goal for MSOE.
