MILWAUKEE – Sophomore Joey Schauer scored two goals and the MSOE men's soccer team did not allow a shot in handing Maranatha a 3-0 defeat Tuesday evening at Viets Field.
The Raiders (3-2) won their third-straight match, outshooting the Sabercats (0-5) 29-0 on the night, with 16 shots on goal.
Schauer netted a first-half brace and nearly completed a hat trick when he hit the post in the 74th minute. Sophomore Lucas D'Amato tallied the lone goal of the second half to provide the final score.
The Red & White got on the board in the 23rd minute on a long throw-in on the far side. Sophomore Sam Gianakos' throw made the box, where freshman Rade Novakovich flicked the ball on to the far post. Schauer was there to tuck a shot into the net for the eventual game-winner.
Schauer did all the work himself on his next score, stealing a pass from the MBU keeper. He then slotted a shot far post for a 2-0 advantage.
The second half was more of the same with continual assaults on the Maranatha goal. D'Amato broke through in the 54th minute, bombing forward from his outside back position. He pounced on a loose ball and carried it through the defense before hammering a low shot inside the far post for his first goal of the season.
MSOE did not allow a touch in the penalty area by the visitors while it took until the 80th minute for a Sabercats' ball to be played into the box. Three keepers combined on the clean sheet, with freshman Sam Paxton getting the most work, relatively speaking, over the final 16:22 of regulation.
The Raiders will look to continue their winning streak Saturday at Dubuque.
