DUBUQUE, Iowa – Sophomore Joey Schauer and freshman Rade Novakovich scored goals just 2:14 apart inside the last six minutes of regulation to lift the MSOE men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Dubuque Saturday afternoon at Oyen Field.
The Raiders (4-2) put together their fourth-straight win, overcoming the Spartans' (1-4) 2-1 lead.
Novakovich netted a pair of goals, converting a 21st-minute penalty kick to open the scoring.
Dubuque then bookended halftime with a pair of goals to shoot into the lead. First, Dominik Chece leveled the scoring in the 36th minute before Roody Jonvil gave the home side the lead in the 59th minute.
Schauer, who scored his first collegiate goals Tuesday, pulled the Red & White even in the 85th minute with an assist from Novakovich. After the goal, Schauer was issued a yellow card and the UD keeper saw a red card, making for a tense ending.
Schauer and Novakovich teamed to ease the tension for the Raiders, with the latter hammering home the go-ahead goal in the 87th minute against 10 men.
The Spartans did appear to have one last gasp, drawing a foul in the attacking half and having the clock stopped at with three seconds remaining. All 10 Dubuque players, including the keeper, crowded the penalty area but the MSOE held strong and denied any quick service into the box when play resumed.
Shots were 19-10 in favor of the home side, with both teams taking five corner kicks.
Freshman Ron Marchionna picked up his fourth-straight win in goal, making six saves in the game.
The Raiders will look to extend their winning streak Wednesday at Edgewood in their NACC opener.
