RIVER FOREST, Illinois – The MSOE men's tennis team ran its winning streak to six-straight matches with a pair of 9-0 victories over Concordia Chicago and Dominican Saturday at Oak Park Tennis and Fitness Center.
The Raiders (6-5, 6-0 NACC) remained perfect in conference play and became the first league team to clinch a place in the NACC Tournament with two regular season matches to play. They return to the court Wednesday afternoon at Lakeland.
MSOE fielded the same lineup for both matches and did not drop a set.
In doubles, seniors Ryan Runke and Brad Phoenix were victorious 8-3 against CUC and 8-1 vs. the Stars. Then, in singles play, Runke played in the No. 1 position and posted 6-2, 6-2 and 6-4, 6-2 wins, respectively. Phoenix manned the No. 4 slot and won 6-0, 6-2 and 7-5, 7-6 (7-2).
The Raiders won 8-0 in both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles position against the Cougars, with the scores ending up 8-2 and 8-4, respectively, against DU.
The No. 2 pairing of sophomores Luke Nelson and Curt Norton cruised through their singles competitions with identical scores. Nelson played at No. 2 and Norton No. 3 and the pair topped their opponents in the first match without dropping a game, 6-0, 6-0. In the second, both were 6-1, 6-0 winners.
Freshmen Connor Splingaire and Bryan Roob formed the No. 3 doubles partnership. They each found little difficulty in their first matches. Splingaire gave the Raiders a third 6-0, 6-0 victory in the match at No. 5 singles and Roob won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6. Against Dominican, Splingaire won 6-3, 6-3 and Roob posted a 6-3, 6-4 win.
