DUBUQUE, Iowa – The MSOE men's tennis team entered their final tune-up this afternoon before the NACC conference schedule kicks gets underway next weekend. And while the results were mixed, the Raiders seem to be coming together just in time for a solid run when it matters the most.
First up on the afternoon was Loras in a neutral site matchup. The Raiders were able to take one of three doubles matches from the Duhawks, with Luke Nelson (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) and David Chon (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) coming away with the lone win in the No. 1 spot. The Red & White were only able to take two of the six matches when play turned to the singles courts, as Nelson (7-5, 6-4) and Curt Norton (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) were the only Raiders to pull in victories during their 6-3 loss.
Things sure did turn around in the second match of the afternoon however, this time against host University of Dubuque. The Spartans were not able to come away with a single set win in the 9-0 thumping. Games of notes were Norton and Peter Gudopp (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) coming away with an 8-1 No. 3 doubles win, Alec Dam (Caledonia, Wis./Union Grove) winning in the No. 3 singles spot 6-1, 6-2, and Gudopp posting a shutout in the No. 6 singles match 6-0, 6-0.
The Raiders will now turn to next weekend when they host Dominican and Concordia-Chicago to open NACC play. Those matches are set to begin at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm respectively.
