DePERE, Wisconsin – Senior Austin Wright won the javelin and the 3000m steeplechase to lead the MSOE men's track & Field team in action at the St. Norbert Invitational Saturday.
The Raiders finished sixth at the 12-team event with 51 points.
Wright threw 156-9 in winning the event by five feet, nine inches over second place. In the steeplechase, he won the event for the second time this season with a time of 9:47.90, nearly 12 seconds ahead of former teammate and unattached runner Ben Miller. Wright was also a part of the scoring 4x400m relay, which was seventh in 3:37.21. He was joined by seniors Mike Van Alstyne and Nick Avila and sophomore McCoy Swanson.
Van Alstyne also scored in two other individual events and Avila was a scorer in the 800m. Van Alstyne placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 20-4 1/2 and ran 53.76 to take seventh in the 400m. Meanwhile, Avila finished fourth in the 800m with a time of 2:01.23.
MSOE boasted three scorers in the 5000m, led by junior Trey Horbinski as runner-up with a time of 15:50.12. Junior Tripp Horbinski was seventh in the event with a time of 16:37.60 and freshman Nick Bath ran 16:41.21.
The Raiders are back in action next Friday and Saturday at the Beloit Relays.
