Men’s Track & Field Takes Second at Ranger Relays

KENOSHA, Wisconsin – The MSOE men's track & field team saw senior Trey Horbinski win the 1000m and four more athletes take second place in an event on its way to a team second-place showing at the Ranger Relays Friday at UW-Parkside.

The Raiders scored 101.5 team points, taking second to only the Division II-host Rangers with 135.

Horbinski topped the field in the 1000m with a time of 2:41.03. He was joined in the top three by sophomore Blake Bostwick, who crossed the line in 2:45.07 for third place.

Freshman Hayden Heun led the runners-up at the event, with a pair of top-three finishes in the throws. He tossed 35-4 for second in the shot put, then posted a distance of 37-2 1/2 in taking third in the weight throw. Sophomore Brandon DeMille joined Heun in the top three of the shot put with a throw of 33-7 1/4 putting him in third place.

Junior McCoy Swanson and freshmen Keaton Harrison and Deven Jakubowski also took second in their respective events. Swanson's top finish came in the long jump, where he leaped 19-6 1/4. Harrison cleared a height of 5-7 for second in the high jump and Jakubowski ran 58.72 in the 400m. Freshman John Franke was third in the 400m with a time of 59.75 and freshman Sam Ajayi took fourth in 1:02.02.

Senior Hail Kazik and both entries into the 4x400m relay rounded out the team's top-five finishers on the day. Kazik ran 9:52.25 in the 3000m for fourth place. In the relay, the team's 'A' relay was fourth in 3:43.96 and the 'B' group was fifth in 4:14.38.

MSOE returns to action next Saturday at UW-Platteville's Pioneer Open.
