BELOIT, Wisconsin – Sophomore Derek Schrimpf was the team's top finisher with a runner-up showing in the discus throw to lead the MSOE men's track & field team in action at the Beloit Relays Saturday at Strong Stadium.
The Raiders finished with 52 points to tie with Wheaton for sixth in the 13-team standings.
Schrimpf threw 134-7 to take second in the discus.
MSOE showed its depth across a few other events, scoring multiple athletes in the 1500m, 5000m, and the high jump. In the 1500m, four Raiders actually finished among the top eight, led by senior Trey Horbinski in fourth place with a time of 4:12.76. He was followed by consecutive teammates with sophomore Blake Bostwick running 4:18.73 for fifth place, and sophomore Nick Bath taking sixth at 4:19.73. Senior Tripp Horbinski rounded out the contingent in eighth with a time of 4:23.99.
Bath and Bostwick each scored in the 5000m, as well. In that event, Bath crossed the line in 16:13.77 for fourth and Bostwick was seventh in 16:53.74.
Freshman Deven Jakubowski and junior McCoy Swanson rounded out the individual scorers at the meet. Jakubowski ran 1:00.67 for fourth in the 400m hurdles and Swanson finished the 200m in 23.47 for eighth place.
Jakubowski, Swanson, Trey Horbinski, and freshman Brian Jimenez formed the eighth-place 4x100m relay squad, combining on a time of 46.41. Horbinski teamed his brother Trey and freshmen Arandu Huerta and Sean Fitzpatrick to form the 4x400m relay, which ran a time of 3:43.99 and also took eighth.
The Raiders have had an abbreviated spring slate of meets due to weather and are now headed to the NACC Championships May 4-5 in Lisle, Illinois.
