MSOE Comeback Falls Short Vs. Cairn

CINCINNATI - The MSOE men's volleyball team fell behind 2-0, but fought back to force a fifth set before falling to Cairn 25-22, 26-24, 19-25, 20-25, 15-11, Sunday morning in its final match at the CVC Crossover hosted by Mount St. Joseph.

The Raiders (2-5) outscored the Highlanders (3-4) 68-53 were done in by 25 service errors in a tight match.

Freshman Logan Baerenwald finished with a double-double of 14 kills and 10 digs, while junior Nick Manning just missed matching figures with 14 kills and nine digs.

Ryan Garven lead Cairn with 17 kills and Josiah Buss added 14.

After the Highlanders won the first set 25-22 and squeaked by in set two 26-24, the Raiders hit .304 and allowed Cairn to hit just .042 and scored off the block four times to stave of defeat. They came back and took the fourth set to force a decisive fifth.

Cairn pulled away midway through the final frame to secure the victory.

Hitting percentages were close, as MSOE finished at .218, compared to .230 for the Highlanders. The Red and White also finished with 21 total team blocks in the match.

The Raiders return to the court Wednesday, hosting Clarke at the Kern Center.
