MSOE Falls In Three At No. 8 Lakeland

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - The MSOE men's volleyball team fell to No. 8 Lakeland in three sets, 25-22, 25-22, 25-17, Friday evening at Woltzen Gymnasium.

The Raiders (3-7, 1-1 CVC) dropped their fifth game of the season to a team ranked in the top-10 of NCAA Division III or NAIA.

Junior Nick Manning and sophomore Brett Herbers had seven kills apiece to lead MSOE. Herbers hit .600 in the match with just one error in 10 attacks.

The Muskies (11-5, 1-0 CVC) had a pair of players in double-digit kills, with Tim Robbins tallying 15 and Alec Redlich 10.

Despite being outhit .474-.167 in the opening game, the Red and White held close with Lakeland and led 13-10 after four-straight points. The frame featured nine ties and three lead changes with the final tie coming at 20-20. LC then scored three-straight points for some breathing room.

MSOE led early in the second game, as well, before a 5-0 Lakeland run turned a 10-8 deficit into a 15-11 advantage. The Raiders scored three-straight points to pull within 21-20. The teams traded points to put the score at 23-22 before the home team scored the final two points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The final set saw the Red and White stumbled out of the blocks with LC getting a run of three and two runs of four-straight points to take an 18-8 lead. MSOE steadied the ship, but could not string points togethers as the teams alternated scores for much of the rest of the match.

The Raiders return to action March 3 against Carthage. Their Feb. 26 home match with Cardinal Stritch was rescheduled for March 24.
