MILWAUKEE – Freshman Logan Baerenwald had 17 kills and junior Nick Manning added a double-double to lead the MSOE men's volleyball team to a 26-24, 21-25, 25-16, 15-25, 15-10 victory over Siena Heights Friday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (4-9) limited the Saints (4-11) to -.150 hitting in the final set to secure the victory.
Baerenwald added nine digs, while Manning notched 13 kills and 11 digs. Freshman Frank Tokarz had an efficient night with eight kills and a .538 attack percentage.
Gilius Blinstrubas was SHU's top performer with 19 kills.
After the Raiders prevailed in a tight first set, the Saints broke a 14-14 tie in set two to pull away and even the match. In the third set, the Red and White jumped out to an 8-1 lead with seven-straight points. SHU pulled within 16-13, but the home team rattled off a 5-0 run to take control.
Siena Heights hit .542 to claim the fourth set and force a fifth. In the decisive set, MSOE scored three-straight points to get some distance at 10-5. The Raiders used their defense in the deciding frame, keeping SHU in negative hitting and closing out the match on a block by freshman Joe Humpal.
MSOE returns to action next weekend, playing at Mount St. Joseph Friday and at Fontbonne Saturday.
