ST. LOUIS – Freshman Scott Boyk hit .378 with 17 kills, but it was not enough as the MSOE men's volleyball team fell at Fontbonne 25-19, 27-29, 25-23, 25-12 Saturday afternoon at MADEE Gymnasium.
The Raiders (4-11, 1-4 CVC) lost both of their matches on the road trip, dropping a 3-0 decision at Mount St. Joseph Friday before Saturday's match with the Griffins (7-8, 1-6 CVC).
Aaron Graue tallied 22 kills to lead Fontbonne to its first conference win of the season.
In the first set, the Griffins overcame an 11-9 Raider edge with a 6-1 run to take control of the frame. MSOE faced a set point in the second set, trailing 24-19. It fended off the home team with five-straight points and had set points at 26-25 and 27-26 before scoring the final two points of the set.
The teams played another tight set in the third, with the Raiders once again fighting off multiple set points. Fontbonne led 24-20, but MSOE scored three-straight points before the Griffins finished off the set.
Fontbonne closed out the match with a fast start in the decisive fourth set, limiting MSOE to -.090 hitting and putting the result to rest early.
The Raiders will be back in action Tuesday, playing in a triangular at Dominican. MSOE will take on the host Stars and Rampao.
