RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The MSOE men's volleyball team dropped both matches in a road triangular at Dominican Wednesday, falling to Ramapo and the host Stars in three sets each.
The Raiders (4-13) opened with a 25-15, 27-25, 25-18 loss to the Roadrunners (18-7). Then, DU (10-11) picked up the 25-20, 25-15, 25-23 victory in the final match of the day.
The Raiders got off to a sluggish start in the first set against Ramapo, attempting just 15 attacks and hitting .067. They rebounded in the second set to push the Roadrunners to extra points. A late 10-4 MSOE run tied the set at 22-22 and pushed ahead with a set point at 25-24. Ramapo rebounded with the last three points to take a 2-0 advantage.
The Red and White played a tight third set, but the Roadrunners finished on a 6-2 run to take the match.
Freshman Scott Boyk led the way with 12 kills. No other Raider finished with more than four. On the other end, Ryan Casci topped Ramapo's offense with nine kills.
In match two, Dominican hit .316 and .391 to take the first two sets. MSOE hit .192 in the opening frame, but saw that drop to .000 in set two. In the final period, the Raiders took a four-point lead at 16-12 with a 7-1 run. Unfortunately, the Stars responded with eight-straight points to take a 20-16 lead.
A Boyk service ace tied the set at 22-22 later, but DU scored three of the last four points for the match win.
MSOE returns to action Wednesday evening at Carthage.
