MILWAUKEE – The MSOE men's volleyball team opened conference play with a decisive 25-6, 25-7, 25-23 victory over Olivet Friday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (4-3, 1-0 MCVL) won their fourth-straight match with their third-straight sweep, jumping out to big leads over the Comets (1-3, 0-1 MCVL) in the first two sets. The third frame was more competitive as MSOE cycled through its lineup.
Sophomore Quin Krisik had 21 assists and seven service aces in just two sets of action.
Luke Dewitt led Olivet with three kills and added four blocks.
The Raiders simply proved too much for the upstart Comets, playing in their first season. MSOE hit .650 in the first set and .444 in the second on their way to a .346 attack percentage for the night. OC, on the other hand, finished with just seven kills against 12 errors for a -.093 hitting clip. It attacked at a negative percentage in each set.
MSOE used a pair of 7-0 runs to open a 19-3 lead in the first set. Then, in the second, Krisik served the first 18 points of the frame, including all seven of his aces.
Olivet jumped out to an early lead in the final set as the Raiders featured a completely new lineup. The visitors led 9-2 and later 17-8 before the Red & White began to rally. As the unit gained cohesiveness, it got into a rhythm and responded with an 8-1 run to even the score at 20-20. It was still tied at 23-23, when MSOE scored the final two points of the set to claim the match.
The Raiders have little rest, returning to action in the morning against Adrian in a 10 a.m. match.
