FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Junior Scott Boyk tallied 10 kills and the No. 14 MSOE men's volleyball team hit .358 in sweeping past Marian, 25-19, 25-13, 25-17, Saturday afternoon at Sadoff Gymnasium.
The Raiders (15-6, 10-0 MCVL) continue to roll in conference play with the defeat of the Sabres (9-11, 5-6 MCVL), remaining perfect and in a tie for first place at 10-0.
Boyk hit .350 in the match, while sophomore Bryant Holland had six kills with no errors and hit .400. Sophomore Ben Clarke had five kills on six attempts (.833) to go with two service aces and five total blocks in the match.
Aaron Wendels had a match-high 11 kills for Marian.
The Red & White faced three different scenarios over the three sets. In the first, the score was tied 15-15 when the Raiders closed out the set on a 10-4 run. They then opened the second game with an 11-2 lead to coast to the win, claiming four of the last five points.
The Sabres appeared to take control of the third set, opening with an 8-1 lead. MSOE responded with six-straight points. Then, trailing 14-10, it rattled off a 15-3 run to close out the sweep.
The Raiders had just eight attack errors in the match, hitting .550 in the opening game and .450 in the second. Marian was limited to .025 hitting in the match, with a .286 attack percentage in the first set, .000 in the second and -.138 in the decisive third frame.
MSOE returns to the court Thursday, playing at No. 3 Carthage. The Raiders and Red Men share the league lead at 10-0 with each team dropping just two sets in those matches.
