MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The No. 15 MSOE men's volleyball team hit .319 and two players reached double-digits in kills as it defeated Wittenberg 25-18. 25-17, 23-25, 25-20 Friday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (16-7, 11-1 MCVL) wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament by defeating the Tigers (14-10, 4-8 MCVL) and Mount St. Joseph falling at No. 3 Carthage.
Junior Scott Boyk led the way with 17 kills on .452 attacking. Sophomore Sam Stealey added 13 kills on .357 hitting in the match. Sophomore Andrew Miller had 42 assists and seven digs in his first collegiate start.
Justin Luby led Wittenberg with 15 kills. Dylan Kolovitz had 14.
MSOE played from behind early in the first set, trailing 11-6 after a 5-1 Tiger run. The home team trailed by six at 14-6 when it rattled off a 9-1 run to overtake WU 17-15. The Red & White then closed out the frame on a 7-1 run. In the second set, the Raiders built on an 8-2 run and scored the final four points for a 2-0 lead in the match.
Wittenberg battled back to take the third set with runs of 7-1 and 4-0.
MSOE then fended off the Tigers in the fourth set. The Raiders led 19-18 and scored five-straight points to put the visitors on the brink. After they staved off back-to-back match points, the Red & White won on a block point.
The Raiders finished with 49 kills against just 13 errors on the night, adding nine service aces and 13.0 total team blocks. Boyk had three aces, while sophomore Bryant Holland and freshman Brian Jones had two each. Wittenberg hit .174 in the match.
MSOE closes out the regular season Saturday, hosting No. 12 Mount St. Joseph at 1 p.m.
