MILWAUKEE - The MSOE men's volleyball team posted an efficient sweep of North Central 25-17, 25-18, 25-15, Thursday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (1-1, 1-0 MCVL) never trailed the Cardinals (3-2, 1-1 MCVL) to handle the visitors and score their first win of the season.
Senior Scott Boyk led a balanced attack with 11 kills. Four different players finished with four kills each. Junior Quin Krisik finished the night with four kills, 26 assists and a match-best eight digs.
Jason Ellinger and Nick Lilley had five kills each for North Central.
In the opening set, MSOE jumped out to an 8-2 lead and never looked back. NCC pulled as close as four on one occasion, but an immediate three-point spurt extended the lead back to seven at 16-9. The lead hovered in that range until the Raiders closed out the set with the final three points.
The second game was tight throughout the early-going and saw the Red & White leading just 14-13 before four-straight points gave the team an 18-13 advantage. Another run of three-straight points later made it 22-15 and the home team scored the final two points to take a 2-0 lead on the night.
It looked as if it would be more tight play in the third period with the Raiders leading 10-9 when they went on an 8-1 run to get some breathing room. They then rattled off four-straight points to take a 24-14 lead and closed out the match just moments later.
MSOE got more efficient on the attack as the night went on, culminating with a .343 clip in the third set. For the match, the team hit .245 and added seven aces. North Central was limited to just .023 attacking with 22 kills against 20 errors.
The Raiders are back in action Friday night, hosting Lakeland.
