DECORAH, Iowa – The MSOE men's volleyball team hit .417 as a team and had 13 service aces as it swept Loras 25-13, 29-27, 25-17, Saturday afternoon on Lillis Court.
The Raiders (3-1, 3-0 MCVL) won their third-straight match to open league play, making the Duhawks (4-5, 2-4 MCVL) their third-straight sweep victim.
It was a balanced team attack for MSOE, as only freshman Jake Christensen even attempted more than nine attacks. He was the lone player with double-digit kills for either team with 11. Junior Quin Krisik had 34 assists in the match with five aces. Junior Andrew Miller and sophomore Sean Runyon added three aces each.
Alfredo Loped led Loras with six kills.
In the first set, the Raiders broke open a 4-4 game with a 14-2 run and never looked back. The score was later 23-9 when the Duhawks scored four of the next five point before the Red & White took the set.
The second game was much tighter, as MSOE actually played from behind for most of the frame. Loras led 24-21 when the Raiders fended off three-straight set points to force extra points. The faced one more set point before back-to-back points put them in the driver's seat. After Loras staved off defeat once, the Red & White scored the final two points for a 29-27 victory.
Another early run was the difference in the decisive third game. MSOE turned a 5-4 lead into a 16-7 advantage with an 11-3 run and never looked back, gradually pulling away throughout the set.
The Raiders' attack percentage is their highest since hitting .459 against Adrian on Feb. 6 of last season. The day before that, was the last time they registered 13 aces in a match when they had 16 against Olivet.
MSOE returns to the court at home, hosting Fontbonne Friday.
