MILWAUKEE – Freshman Jake Christensen had a match-high 12 kills and the MSOE men's volleyball team swept Loras 25-20, 25-18, 25-22 Friday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (10-2, 7-1 MCVL), who beat No. 12 Rivier earlier in the afternoon, downed the Duhawks (6-8, 4-7 MCVL) for their seventh win in eight league matches this season.
Christensen hit .417 in the match with just two errors and was the lone player to crack double-digits in kills. Senior Ed Krupski and junior Logan Baerenwald finished with six kills each. Junior Quin Krisik had 32 assists, 10 digs and four kills in the match.
Greg Kinney and Dylan Ross led Loras with seven kills each.
In the first set, the Raiders broke a 10-10 tie with a 7-2 run to take control of the frame at 17-12. Their lead grew to 22-15 before the visitors rattled off five-straight points to pull within 22-20. Krupski then had a kill and back-to-back service aces to close out the set.
MSOE jumped out to a 9-2 lead early in the second set and was not threatened thereafter. The advantaged peaked at 10 points on multiple occasions before Loras had another late run. This time it scored 5-of-6 points to make it 23-17 before the teams traded points to close out the set.
While the Raiders never trailed in the final frame, they could not shake the Duhawks. They led by as many as four in the game but Loras pulled within one multiple times and trailed by just two at 23-21 and 24-22 before junior Sam Stealey closed out the match with a kill.
The Red & White attacked .214 for the match, including a robust .400 in winning set two. The Raiders also finished with nine aces on the night, led by Krisik's three. Loras attacked .131 in the match.
MSOE returns to the court Saturday, hosting Marian.
