GREENVILLE, Illinois – The No. 14 MSOE men's volleyball team hit .410 as a team and posted a fifth-straight sweep by defeating Greenville 26-24, 25-20, 25-22 Saturday afternoon at H.J. Long Gymnasium.
The Raiders (14-2, 10-1 MCVL) knocked off the Panthers (5-14, 1-13 MCVL) for their sixth-straight win and 14th win in 15 matches.
Junior Logan Baerenwald led the charge with 16 kills, hitting .500 in the match with just three errors in 26 attacks. Senior Scott Boyk added 11 kills. Junior Quin Krisik finished with 34 assists and three of the team's 10 service aces.
Manuel Benitez had 14 kills to pace Greenville. Three more players notched five kills each.
The opening set was truly back-and-forth, with an exciting conclusion. A Boyk kill gave MSOE a 22-20 advantage when the home team responded with four-straight points to set up set point at 24-22. The Red & White responded with a four-point run of its own to take the game.
The Raiders used a 7-2 to break a 4-4 tie early in the second set and played from ahead the rest of the frame. They kept the Panthers at bay throughout the rest of the frame.
In the final set, MSOE utilized another 7-2 run to pull away but Greenville was able to keep it close with a 6-2 stretch of its own. GC pulled within one before the Red & White gained some breathing room with three-straight points to pull ahead 23-19 before closing out the match.
MSOE tallied 41 kills over three sets, hitting .480 in the opening and .440 in the second. It marked the team's third match by hitting .400 for a match and was its fifth outing with 10-plus aces. Greenville hit .240 on the day.
The Raiders return to action Friday, hosting Mount St. Joseph.
