Men’s Volleyball Rolls in Season-Opening Sweep of Stritch

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE men's volleyball team hit .447 for the match in rolling to a 25-17, 25-21, 25-11 victory over Cardinal Stritch Wednesday evening on Panella Court.

The Raiders (1-0) put together an all-around efficient performance in sweeping the Wolves (1-1) in their first match of the 2018 season.

Sophomore Spencer Mueller, senior Bryant Holland, and sophomore Jake Christensen each collected a team-best nine kills in the match. Mueller had nine kills in nine attacks for a perfect night (1.000) while Holland was efficient, as well, with a .471 attack percentage and just one error.

Senior Andrew Miller directed the offense with 37 assists, adding seven digs.

Feli Mello Oliveira led Stritch with eight kills.

MSOE fell behind early in the first set, as CSU scored the first four points and later led 11-9. That was when the Raiders caught fire, scoring the next nine points to open an 18-11 lead before steadily pulling away. In the second set, the Red & White broke a 14-14 tie with a 4-1 run to get all the breathing room it would need in opening a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Raiders then blew the Wolves away in the decisive third set, hitting .619 in the frame. With a 10-7 lead, they ran away with another 9-0 run to open up a 19-7 advantage.

MSOE registered 43 kills against just nine errors in the match, adding seven service aces. Meanwhile, Stritch was limited to .061 attacking with 23 kills against 18 errors.

The Raiders return to the court Friday, hosting UC-Santa Cruz in their home-opener at the Kern Center.
