FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Coming off a week that saw the Milwaukee School of Engineering men's volleyball team go 2-1, a performance that allowed them to move back into the AVCA Top 15, the Raiders hit the road again for a NACC matchup against the Sabres of Marian University. It appeared that threes were wild this evening, as the Raiders defeated MU in three sets for their third straight victory.
#14 MSOE (11-6, 6-2 NACC) faced stiff competition from Marian (6-9, 4-3 NACC) in this evenings contest, as the Sabres made the Red & White fight tooth and nail for each hard-fought victory. The first set saw the Raiders earn 15 kills in 27 attacks, but eight errors allowed MU to keep within striking distance of the initial set win. Each team had numerous extended rallies in the match opener, but with Marian holding a slight one-point advantage, the Raiders collected three straight points for the 26-24 triumph.
Set two and three were also closely contested, but the Raiders found a way to pull through with back to back 25-21 wins. The second frame saw MSOE take the last five of eight total points down the stretch, aided by a game high .594 hitting percentage. While that number took a hit in the third and final set, their .147 pct. was forgiven thanks to the Sabres only tallying eight kills to go along with five errors as the match concluded in set three.
Quin Krisik (Itasca, Ill./Itasca) continued to contribute to the team's efforts, putting together a performance of five kills, nine digs, two blocks, and a team high 38 assists. Jake Christensen (Kenosha, Wis./Lakeview Technology Academy) and Austyn Bella (Sherwood, Wis./Kaukauna) both had strong performances as well. They combined for 23 kills in 38 total attacks, with Christensen leading all players with four service aces.
Marian hit just .273 as a team and weren't able to manage a service ace over the course of the evening. Jon Smallpage led the Sabres with 11 kills, while Joey Dittman had ten digs and 28 assists.
The Raiders will look to keep the winning streak alive going into the weekend, as they host Augustana (Ill.) on Friday at 7:00 p.m. before returning to conference play against Dominican at 1:00 p.m. inside of Hotchkin Arena on Saturday afternoon.
