MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Freshman Austin Wright (Marinette, Wis. / Marinette) took second, and four of five scorers were in the top 20, as the MSOE men's cross country team took third at the Red Hawk Invitational, hosted by Ripon College Saturday.
The Raiders scored 58 points to take third behind UW-Oshkosh (32) and a team of unattached runners. The host Red Hawks were 35 points back in fourth and Maranatha rounded out the field with 154 points.
Wright, who ran second on the team last week, finished behind only Oshkosh's Joe Zack, crossing the line in 27:44--19 seconds off the lead. Sophomore Nik Stasinopoulos (Franklin Park, Ill. / East Leyden) was also in the top-10, finishing eighth in 28:37.
Also scoring for the Raiders was sophomore Ben Miller (Manitowoc, Wis. / Manitowoc Lutheran), junior Brian Janus (Green Bay, Wis. / Preble) and freshman James Kearn (New Berlin, Wis. / West). Miller ran a time of 28:53 for 11th place, while Miller was just a few places back in 14th with a time of 29:05. Kearn edged freshman Nicholas Avila (Northlake, Ill. / West Leyden) for the team's fifth spot in 25th place with a time of 30:54. Avila was 25th in 31:01.
MSOE returns to action next weekend at the Concordia Invitational, Saturday in Mequon.
