MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Freshman Austin Wright (Marinette, Wis. / Marinette) was the top Raider finisher as the MSOE men's cross country team took 13th overall at the 26-team Roy Griak Invitational Saturday morning at the University of Minnesota.
The Raiders boasted a pair of top-50 finishers and scored 363 to finish in the middle of the pack. UW-Eau Claire edged conference rival UW-Oshkosh for top honors, 69-76.
After missing last week's race, Wright returned to the lineup and was the top finisher, taking 39th place with a time of 27:21. Two-time reigning NACC Runner of the Week, senior Trevor Koziczkowski (Stevens Point, Wis. / SPASH) was just seven seconds back, crossing the line in 27:28 for 44th.
Sophomore Ben Miller (Manitowoc, Wis. / Manitowoc Lutheran) and junior Nik Stasinopoulos (Franklin Park, Ill. / East Leyden) finished just six seconds apart, while junior Brian Janus (Green Bay, Wis. / Preble) was the team's final scorer just 30 seconds later. Miller finished just outside the top-100 in 108th with a time of 28:37. Stasinopoulos finished in 28:43 for 112th and Janus posted a time of 29:13 for 135th.
Rounding out MSOE's top seven was freshmen Jan Petak (Kašperské Hory, Czech Republic) and Nick Avila (Northlake, Ill. / West Leyden). In just his second collegiate race, Patek ran 29:34 for 148th. Avila finished just on the other side of 30:00, taking 169th in 30:03.
The Raiders return to action next weekend at the Warrior Invitational, hosted by WLC in West Allis.
