MEQUON, Wisconsin – Junior Trey Horbinski edged senior Austin Wright for first place as the MSOE men's cross country team opened the 2016 season with a decisive 20-58 dual meet victory over Concordia Wisconsin late Thursday afternoon on the CUW campus.
The Raiders boasted six of the top eight finishers, and seven of the top-10, in the two-mile race led by Horbinski's time of 10:16. He edged his teammate by just one second.
Junior Colin Rink was edged for third place by a fraction of a second, finishing fourth with a near-identical time of 10:20. Junior Nick Avila then led a contingent of three Red & White runners finishing just four seconds apart. Avila ran 10:28 for sixth place, freshman Nick Bath was seventh in 10:30 and junior Tripp Horbinski took eighth in 10:32.
Rounding out the top-10 and MSOE's first seven runners was junior Matt Thomas with a time of 10:43.
After the season-opening warm-up race, the Raiders return to action Saturday at the Tom Barry Invitational in DePere, Wisconsin.
