APPLETON, Wisconsin – All seven counting runners lowered their season-best times and four lowered those times by at least a minute as the MSOE men's cross country team took second at the Gene Davis Invitational Saturday morning at Reid Municipal Golf Course.
The Raiders finished with a team score of 70, trailing only the Wisconsin Track Club with 37 points. The Red & White was 13 points ahead of third-place UW-Stevens Point.
Senior Austin Wright led the way, finishing runner-up by just nine seconds. His time of 25:57 was his first sub-26:00 time of the season and lowered his season-best time by 1:01. Junior Trey Horbinski finished fifth, lowering his time 1:05 to 27:26.
MSOE actually had nine runners finish in under 28:00 at the meet. Freshman Nick Bath took 14th in 26:37, a 1:02 improvement. Junior Matt Thomas had a modest 0:21 drop in his season-best time as he ran 27:07 for 23rd place. Senior Nick Avila rounded out the scorers in 27th place and with a time of 27:11—his best time this season by 1:05 and a personal best by 34 seconds.
The Raiders face just one more race before the conference meet, next Saturday at the UW-Oshkosh AAE Invitational in Winneconne, Wisconsin.
