Men’s Cross Country Takes First at Olde English Classic

BELOIT, Wisconsin – Sophomore Nick Bath was runner-up and led all five scorers in the top 11 as the MSOE men's cross country team won the Olde English Classic Saturday morning at Beloit College.

The Raiders notched 35 points to finish 15 points ahead of second-place Knox in the six-team field.

Bath finished the 8000m course in 28:39.7 to finish seven seconds off the lead. Senior Trey Horbinski was third in the race, crossing the line in 29:12.2.

The race is unique in that it feats hay bales throughout the course that are hurdled.

Three MSOE runners then finished in ninth through 11th places to round out the scorers. Sophomore Blake Bostwick ran 30:05.0 to lead the group, edging sophomore Noah Vaculik, who ran 30:06.1. Senior Tripp Horbinski was just seconds back in 30:14.3.

Sophomore Hagen Opitz placed 15th and freshman Mark Nelson was 18th as the team's other counting runners. Opitz posted a time of 30:53.5 and Nelson crossed the line in 31:18.1.

The Raiders return to action Friday at UW-Eau Claire for the Blugold Invitational.
