Rowing Posts Three Runner-Up Finishes at Head of the Rock

ROCKFORD, Illinois – The MSOE rowing team posted three runner-up finishes and added another top-five showing at the Head of the Rock Regatta Saturday on the Rock River.

The Raiders were second in the Varsity 4, Novice Single, and the Lightweight 4 races, Their 'A' boat in the Varsity 8 placed fifth and the Women's Club team posted a fourth-place showing in the Novice 4.

The biggest finish of the day was the Varsity 4, where MSOE was one of 21 entries in the race. The crew of Chris Gloeckle, Seth LiaBraaten, Jonah Meffert, Robert Lancaster, and coxswain Francis Sena posted a time of 16:45.660 to finish behind just Purdue and ahead of boats from Notre Dame, Northwestern, and Minnesota.

Jake Schilling competed in the Novice Single for the second-straight regatta and was runner-up again. He rowed a time of 21:35.463 for second out of five rowers and distanced himself from third place by about 1:42.

Nick Herche, Soren Aldridge-Chapman, Nicholas Losch, Jacob Craig, and coxswain Savannah Duenweg represented the Red & White in action in the Lightweight 4 race. They pulled a time of 18:15.594 for second among four boats.

The Raiders put two entries into the 22-boat Varsity 8 race, with the 'A' crew taking fifth with a time of 16:11.806 and the 'B' boat taking 18th in 17:33.993.

The MSOE Women's Rowing Club team had another strong outing to start the season. Made up of varsity coxswains Borgialli, Ciara Jarmain, Jensen Ritzow, and Rachel Hunter, the crew took fourth out of 10 teams and beat both entries from Marquette for the second-straight regatta. They posted a time of 19:52.064.

MSOE also entered into the Mixed Open 4, taking sixth out of eight teams. That boat was coxed by Ritzow, with rowers Duenweg, Hunter, Spencer Gorman, and Hussain Albaseri, and posted a time of 24:23.092.
