INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The road to the super regionals goes through Illinois Wesleyan, but MSOE softball has no doubts that they will be the one punching that ticket to the next round. The Raiders will travel to Bloomington, Ill. to start play in their first ever NCAA softball tournament on Thursday, taking on the Calvin Knights.
The Red & Whites inaugural game will start at Noon, with the No. 3 seed Raiders playing as the away team. The fun won't stop there, however. When they will play next is the question. If the Raiders come away with a win over the Knights, who finished 29-8, they will play the winner of the No. 1 Illinois Wesleyan/No. 4 Otterbein game at 11:00 am on Friday. If they fall to Calvin, they will play the loser of that Thursday matchup at 1:30 pm.
Once those contests are played, the 1-1 teams will play an elimination game at 4:30pm the same day, with the regional championship contest taking place on Saturday at Noon.
The Raiders finished the regular season with a team record 33 wins, earning the No. 2 seed in the NACC softball tournament and easily sweeping the competition in three games. Not only did they brush aside their opponents, they were downright dominate. Raiders pitching not only went 20 innings without surrendering an earned run, the combo of Lorrin Pondo (Bolingbrook, Ill. / Bolingbrook) and Emily Wiederholt (Cuba City, Wis. / Cuba City) gave up just seven hits all weekend.
