RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Four players scored in double-figures to lead the MSOE women's basketball team to a 63-48 victory over Concordia Chicago Saturday afternoon at Geiseman Gymnasium.
The Raiders (10-6, 8-3 NACC) have now reached 10 wins in a season for the sixth time in program history and an eighth conference win for the fourth time. Meanwhile, the Cougars (0-15, 0-12 NACC) remained winless on the season.
Junior Marly Trier led a balanced attack for MSOE with 15 points and four steals. Senior Shannon Larson, junior Bre'Ana Strong and freshman Holly Denfeld each scored 10 points, while freshman Corrine Sanford added nine.
Angelik Young led CUC with a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds. Kassy Koehler added 11points and Morga Jahnke scored nine.
The Red and White fell behind in the opening minutes of the game, but quickly rebounded and took the lead for good midway through the frame and pushed its lead as high as nine at 27-18 with 2:29 to go.
The Raiders went into halftime leading 29-22. They opened the second half with three-straight buckets to take a 13-point lead just over 90 seconds into the period at 35-22. Concordia then responded with nine-straight points to pull within 35-31.
A Strong three-pointer ended that run and MSOE maintained its lead the rest of the game. The Cougars would pull as close as five at the midway point of the half, but the Raiders pulled away and would get its lead into double-figures in the closing minutes.
The Red and White are back in action Tuesday, returning home to host Marian at the Kern Center.
