Women's Basketball Opens NACC Play With 10-Point Win

MILWAUKEE – Senior Shaylan Reardon scored 18 points and junior Jamie Spanbauer turned in a double-double to lead the MSOE women's basketball team to a 60-50 victory over Dominican in their NACC opener Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (2-1, 1-0 NACC) outscored the Stars (2-2, 0-1 NACC) 15-3 in the second quarter to overtake the visitors and take control of the game.

Reardon shot 8-of-14 from the field and grabbed seven rebounds in the game. Spanbauer finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and hit on 3-of-5 three-point attempts. She also had four assists and three steals.

Sophomore Kayla Barreto added eight points and junior Brooke Scott had seven in the victory.

Timiya Ray had 19 points and 15 rebounds to lead Dominican.

The visitors led 24-20 after a fast-paced first quarter, but MSOE took control in the second half. The Red & White opened the period on a 15-1 run. The Raiders shot 7-of-13 in the quarter and limited the Stars to just 1-for-10 shooting to take a 35-25 lead.

The advantage was 35-27 at halftime and Spanbauer hit a three-pointer out of the intermission to make it an 11-point game. Dominican pulled within six at 45-39 before a 13-3 run than spanned well into the fourth quarter opened a game-high 16-point lead at 58-42 with 6:16 to play.

MSOE came out of the gates strong, shooting 51.9 percent in the first half, including 7-for-13 in that decisive second quarter. The team cooled off a bit in the second half but still finished at 46 percent from the game, including an 8-for-15 (.533) clip on three-point attempts.

DU shot 30.6 percent in the game, connecting on just 3-of-17 from three-point range. The visitors did hold a 43-31 rebounding edge in the game, including 28-16 in the second half.

The Raiders now have a week off before hitting the road for a league contest at Lakeland next Saturday.
