Women’s Basketball Falls Short at Edgewood

MADISON, Wisconsin – Four players scored in double-digits but it was not enough as the MSOE women's basketball team fell to Edgewood 70-62 Tuesday evening at the EdgeDome.

The Raiders (2-3, 1-2 NACC) last led just over two minutes before halftime but spent the second half chasing the Eagles (3-4, 1-2 NACC), pulling as close as two points in the fourth quarter.

Senior Shaylan Reardon hit four 3-pointers on her way to a team-high 17 points. Sophomore Kayla Barreto scored 12 points and juniors Jamie Spanbauer and Brooke Scott had 11 each.

Junior Samantha Brooker pulled down nine rebounds to go with four assists, four steals, and a pair of blocked shots.

Allison Gordon scored 18 points for Edgewood. Riley Larson tallied 12 points off the bench and Diamond Pikulyk had 10.

MSOE trailed by as many as 10 in the opening quarter before battling back into the game in the second half. A Brooker layup with 2:17 remaining in the first half gave the Raiders the lead at 46-45. It would be short-lived, as the home team re-took the lead 23 seconds later and did not relinquish it.

Barreto pulled her team within one with a jumper to start the second half but MSOE would not be able to overtake the Eagles. Reardon later hit a three-pointer to make it a two-point game midway through the fourth quarter but EC responded with a 7-1 run to hold off the Raiders.

MSOE shot a season-best 48.2 percent from the field in the game, sinking six 3-pointers. Edgewood shot 45 percent but went 14-of-22 at the free throw line compared to just 2-for-4 for the Red & White.

The Raiders return home to host Rockford Saturday at 4:15 p.m.
