Women’s Basketball Pulls Away at Mt. Mary

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's basketball team outscored Mt. Mary 24-9 in the third quarter to pull away and roll to a 64-43 victory Monday evening.

The Raiders (5-4) trailed the Blue Angels (2-6) 20-16 midway through the second quarter before taking the lead for good with an 11-4 run to close the half and posting their dominant third quarter.

Senior Shaylan Reardon scored a game-high 16 points, adding seven rebounds and four assists to lead the way. Sophomore Kayla Barreto notched nine points and four assists and junior Jamie Spanbauer chipped in nine points of her own.

Becky Onan led Mt. Mary with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and four steals.

After taking a 27-24 lead at halftime, MSOE got hot to start the second half. The team shot 9-of-17 in the period and hit all four 3-pointers. Junior Kiana Jeremiah hit a three-pointer to cap the scoring to make it 51-33 heading into the final quarter.

The lead reached 24 points at 64-40 when freshman Danielle Valley hit a jumper with 2:25 remaining in the game.

The Raiders shot 373 percent on the night and knocked down 8-of-18 from three-point range. They held a decisive 45-32 rebounding advantage and forced a +7 turnover differential (17-10). More importantly, the Red & White outscored MMU 23-6 in points off turnovers.

The Blue Angels were held to 31.5 percent shooting.

MSOE returns to action Wednesday, hosting Loras at the Kern Center.
