Women’s Basketball Can’t Slow Down Loras

MILWAUKEE – Loras shot nearly 70 percent in the second half and went on an 18-0 run in the fourth quarter as the MSOE women's basketball team fell 74-54 Wednesday evening at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (5-5) pulled within one to start the fourth quarter but did not score again for over seven minutes as the Duhawks (7-4) caught fire and pulled away.

Senior Shaylan Reardon led MSOE with 15 points. Junior Jamie Spanbauer and Kayla Barreto had 11 points each and freshman Amy Reiser notched five points, three assists, and four steals.

Addie Oberman had 13 points and Tayler Walker 12 for the visitors.

Despite Loras getting hot after halftime, a Reardon layup 12 seconds into the fourth quarter pulled her team within 46-45. The Duhawks then got white hot with 18-straight points to extend their lead to 64-45 before Reiser stopped the bleeding with a three-point play with 2:32 remaining in the game.

Loras went 10-for-14 in the fourth quarter and shot 69.2 percent in the second half to pull away. The visitors finished at 51.7 percent for the game, including an 8-for-22 clip from three-point range. MSOE finished at 38.5 percent for the night, starting out hot from three-point range before cooling off for a 6-of-22 performance on the night.

The Raiders had overcome an eight-point deficit in the first quarter to pull within 16-15 at the end of the frame. They then overtook the Duhawks in the second quarter and carried a 29-27 lead into halftime.

The game was closer than the final score would indicate with five ties and nine lead changes.

MSOE returns to action after the holidays, hosting Concordia Wisconsin at the Kern Center Dec. 30.
